My story

My career story begins with law, but my real story starts with the sea.

I was a merchant navy kid. Round the world voyages, and a fairly feral childhood, gave me a deep and long-standing relationship with the natural world. At university I spent a summer trail building with the Nevada Conservation Corps. When it came to postgraduate study, I had places to do Medical Ethics and Environment and Development, and it felt like choosing between the health of people and the health of the environment. At the time I chose people, but always had the natural environment at the forefront of my mind.

After years as a lawyer, I moved to coaching and then a portfolio career via a long series of tiny experiments that were both challenging and fun along the way. I noticed how so many of us choose work we think we should do, not what we really want to do.

Now my career has come full circle. As a coach and B Corp consultant, I get to support the wellbeing of people and of nature. I believe the two are interlinked, and that belief is at the heart of Coaching Wild. (Where it suits, sessions happen outdoors, by or in the water.)

I work with people who are serious about what they do, often in senior roles, and who care deeply about something more meaningful. They want work, or a seat on a board, that feeds that part of them. I also work with people who want something a little different, and who think best outside. I bring all of this together with a calm, person and nature-centred approach to coaching, to help you build work and lives with more creativity, adventure and meaning.

What my clients say…

“My confidence has increased... I'm backing myself more, bigging myself up more, giving myself more credit and catching myself when I'm downplaying my impact. I feel more clear-minded personally and professionally.”

Joe, Lead Project Manager, National Sports Organisation

“I loved the combination of your calm, yet energized, self that created a coaching style that allowed conversations to flow with trust and openness.”

Monique, Senior Law and Policy Professional

“You used my vocabulary…You noticed the urgent energy in session and named it... You welcomed me saying ‘that’s not the right question’ (and this was treated as useful signal rather than a problem to overcome).”

Maria, Director of Research
